The PA1033 is a single-channel IFF power amplifier for transmitting long Mode 5 and Mode S 112-bit interrogation pulses. Operating in Class AB, it delivers 3,200 W minimum at the 1 dB compression point (4,000 W, +66 dBm, typical), and the PA1033-001 delivers 4,000 W minimum (5,000 W, +67 dBm, typical). A +10 dBm nominal pulsed input produces +65 dBm (PA1033) or +66 dBm (PA1033-001). Its controlled response at 1090 MHz (-2 dB) lets it serve as an interrogator or a responder.
The amplifier is built around a high-performance brazed heatsink, which keeps the air-cooled package to 9.50 × 6.87 × 4.40 in. Harmonics are low for the power delivered: the second harmonic is -40 dBc typical and all others are below -70 dBc. Input and output return loss is -20 dB typical. It runs from +34 VDC, +12 VDC and +5 VDC supplies.
For dual-channel Sum and SLS operation with built-in T/R switches, see the PA1105 (1,200 W), PA1123 (2,800 W) and low-power PA1138.
